Psalm-light for Easter Sunday, 2021
Psalm 118: 1-2, 14-24
The Lord is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.
There is a sound of exaltation and victory
in the tents of the righteous:
The right hand of the Lord has triumphed!
the right hand of the Lord is exalted!
the right hand of the Lord has triumphed!
(Psalm 118: 14-16)
“God will make a way where there seems to be no way … He will make a way for me” (from a song by Don Moen). In the Old Testament, God made a way for the Hebrew people, leading them from slavery in Egypt, through the waters of the Red Sea, to freedom in the promised land. In the Gospels, God made a way from death to eternal life; from human brokenness to human wholeness; through the death and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ. The sacrificial love of Jesus, poured out on the Cross assures us that nothing can separate us from our Lord’s faithful presence, mercy, and love. God in Christ makes a way for us, when suffering, sin, and death say there is no way! In these pandemic times, we need Easter more than ever, with its hope-filled Gospel of new life arising out of all the death dealing forces in the world. Alleluia!
Walking in the light:
Look for signs of new life and hope, in nature, in people, in local, national and international events, and in your own life. Don’t overlook or discount anything, or anyone, that seems too small to count or matter. You are learning to see with Resurrection eyes! If you normally keep a diary or journal, record these “sightings of Easter.” If you don’t normally keep a journal or diary, you might want to try keeping one for the Easter Season, honoring what God is showing you by taking the time to write it down, savoring it, and giving thanks!
